Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi Opens Up on New Signings and Season Preparations

With the new season just two weeks away, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has provided an update on the club’s transfer activity and overall squad development as anticipation builds among fans.

Chiefs have been active in the market, securing several new signings aimed at strengthening key areas ahead of a challenging campaign that includes CAF Confederation Cup football. Among the most notable arrivals is Flavio Silva, the Indonesian forward expected to lead the attacking line and deliver crucial goals.

Other new faces joining the squad include midfielders Siphesihle Ndlovu and Ethan Chislett, defenders Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako. Additionally, the club has promoted several promising talents such as Thulani Mabaso, Naledi Hlongwane, Kabelo Nkgwesa, and Manqoba Ozoemena from their development ranks.

This influx of up to 10 fresh options gives Nabi more tactical flexibility as he prepares for the demanding season ahead.

“There are one or two positions that we might strengthen,” Nabi explained. “But we are going to look for the best opportunity especially in terms of quality because we don’t want to fill a position just to fill it. We will wait as long as it requires to fill one or two positions going ahead.”

Nabi also stressed the importance of nurturing young talent gradually to avoid overburdening players too early.

“We also need as well to give the opportunity this season to the young players that came from DDC as well as the ones that were promoted last season because we feel that there is big potential,” he said.

“But we want to do it step by step because we have learnt from a player like Mduduzi Shabalala, who was given a lot of responsibility and carried the team on his shoulders last season, especially in the first part of the league. At the end of the league, his performance was not as good as we expected.”

Nabi’s approach reflects a measured balance between integrating youth and maintaining competitive standards within the squad.

Reflecting on Chiefs’ disappointing first season in the Betway Premiership under his leadership, Nabi remains pragmatic about the road ahead.

“How we are approaching the season is that we are taking it game by game and to do everything we can to win that game,” he said. “Of course, maybe it is not going to be possible to win all the games. Maybe it is going to be possible but we are going to challenge in every game in whatever capabilities that we will be in to challenge for every game. After that, we will see where we stand.”

As Kaizer Chiefs gear up for a season packed with domestic and continental challenges, fans will be hoping that the blend of new signings and emerging talent under Nabi’s guidance will deliver the success the club craves.
