Thabiso Kutumela’s CHAN Form Sparks Transfer Frenzy

Thabiso Kutumela’s revival on the international stage has sparked a transfer battle, with Chippa United now facing stiff competition to sign the experienced striker. The 32-year-old has impressed for Bafana Bafana at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), reminding clubs of his finishing ability and experience.
Chippa United had previously explored the possibility of signing Kutumela during pre-season, but technical decisions and squad planning prevented the move from materialising. With Luc Eymael set to take charge at Chilli Boys, the Eastern Cape side has renewed its interest in the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward.
Kutumela’s standout performances at CHAN have attracted attention from multiple suitors, both locally and abroad. AmaZulu are reportedly leading the domestic race, having made formal approaches for the striker. The Durban-based club is pushing to complete a deal before the transfer window closes.
Interest is not limited to South Africa. Sudanese giants Al-Hilal and an unnamed Albanian club are monitoring Kutumela, while PSL sides Siwelele FC and Marumo Gallants have also expressed admiration. “Kutumela has shown that he can still deliver at the highest level,” a source said. “His goals at CHAN have reminded clubs of his quality. AmaZulu have made an approach, but other options remain alive.”
Kutumela’s career track record adds weight to the transfer interest. He rose to prominence at Baroka FC before moving to Orlando Pirates, Maritzburg United, and Mamelodi Sundowns, winning back-to-back Premiership titles in 2021/22 and 2022/23. He also had spells at Cape Town City and Richards Bay, though limited game time left questions over his trajectory.
His performances in green and gold have reignited interest, placing him in a position to secure one more high-profile move before the transfer window closes. Clubs both in South Africa and abroad are closely watching the striker’s next step.
