Rivaldo Coetzee Assessed by PSL Club as Transfer Window Closes

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee is currently training with a PSL club as he seeks to secure a new team before the transfer window closes later this month. The 28-year-old remains unattached following his release from Sundowns after many years at Chloorkop, despite previous links to clubs across Africa, including Tanzania and North Africa.

Coetzee’s agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed that the player is undergoing fitness assessments with Sekhukhune United. “He is training at Sekhukhune at the moment. Once he reaches match fitness, they will make a decision. He is training to get to a certain level of fitness, and we will see what develops after this,” Makaab told Soccer Laduma.

The extended trial period indicates a cautious approach from Sekhukhune United, evaluating whether Coetzee can meet the club’s fitness standards following his Sundowns departure. Sekhukhune’s Marketing Manager, Tebogo Mapinga, declined to confirm Coetzee’s status, stating, “Everything remains a rumour until we confirm. Until it’s made official, there is nowhere that Sekhukhune United is involved.”

Coetzee’s search for a new club has been ongoing since leaving Sundowns. Tanzanian side Simba SC was previously linked with the versatile defender and midfielder, but no deal materialized, leaving him to explore domestic opportunities.

Highly rated during his time at Sundowns, Coetzee was once close to a move to Celtic in Scotland before injuries hindered his progress. At 28, he still has time to rebuild his fitness and prove his class at the top level, making him an appealing prospect for PSL clubs looking to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline.
