Olisa Ndah Absence Looms as Polokwane City Visit Orlando Stadium

Orlando Pirates will face Polokwane City without Olisa Ndah, highlighting the continuing impact of the defender’s long-term injury. Ndah last played for Pirates against Polokwane on September 24, 2024, starting as captain and featuring for 84 minutes before a substitution due to a fractured tibia.

The injury was initially expected to keep him out until March 2025, but complications, including a stress fracture towards the end of last season, have prolonged his absence. Over 13 months later, Ndah remains sidelined, with no confirmed return date as Pirates have played 58 matches without him.

The 27-year-old has resumed training, but match readiness remains uncertain. In his absence, Pirates have relied on Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thabiso Sesane, and Tapelo Xoki in central defence. The emergence of Mbekezeli Mbokazi and the signing of Lebone Seema this season have added depth, with Mbokazi quickly establishing himself as first-choice and taking over the captain’s armband.

Injury woes continue for Pirates’ defence, as Sesane and Xoki are currently sidelined. This has increased reliance on Mbokazi and Seema, making Ndah’s return even more anticipated. His absence has also affected his international career, limiting opportunities for the Nigerian defender while he recovers.

As Polokwane City arrive for their first league visit of the season, Pirates must navigate defensive challenges without Ndah. His return could significantly stabilize the backline and restore leadership at the heart of the defence.
