Orlando Pirates Join Race for Zimbabwean Striker Washington Navaya

Zimbabwean striker Washington Navaya is attracting attention from several clubs as he prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations. Recent reports indicate that Orlando Pirates, the current Betway Premiership League log leaders, have joined the competition to secure the forward’s signature.
An insider close to Navaya confirmed that, in addition to Orlando Pirates and Durban City, Zimbabwean champions Scotland FC have also expressed interest. Negotiations have been complicated by the player’s commitments with the national team, which recently reduced its squad for AFCON.
“There is some interest from several clubs. The player has been focusing on national team duties, so even if terms are agreed, he needs to be allowed to sign. At the moment, he cannot leave camp,” said agent Gilbert Sengwe. He added that discussions with clubs, including one of South Africa’s “Big Three,” are ongoing but will likely be finalized after the tournament.
Navaya was recently named Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year. He is currently with the Warriors in AFCON camp, where Zimbabwe is grouped with South Africa, Angola, and Egypt. The striker’s performance at the tournament is expected to influence the final outcome of any transfer negotiations.
Fans and clubs are watching closely as Navaya prepares to make his mark on the continental stage. Once the tournament concludes, a clearer picture is expected to emerge regarding his next club.
