Brayan Leon Off to Flying Start at Mamelodi Sundowns With Double Figures in Sight

Mamelodi Sundowns January signing Brayan Leon has wasted no time announcing himself in the Betway Premiership. The Colombian forward has scored four goals in his first six appearances for the Tshwane giants. That return has immediately placed him on course to reach double figures before the end of the season. Sundowns still have at least 18 matches remaining across all competitions. If Leon maintains his current scoring rate, he will comfortably pass the 10 goal mark.
Leon opened his account on debut against Orbit College FC four weeks ago. He followed that strike with three more goals, showing sharp movement and composure in front of goal. His minutes have come through a mix of starts and substitute appearances, which makes the four goal tally even more impressive. Few January signings in the PSL adapt this quickly, especially players arriving from outside the continent. Leon has shown he can handle the physical demands and tactical structure of South African football.
Comparisons have already been drawn with fellow Colombian Leonardo Castro, who joined Sundowns from Club Universitario de Sucre more than a decade ago. Castro needed three matches to score his first goal and had just one after six appearances, though he later finished the season with 16 goals. Leon, younger and arriving directly from Colombia’s top flight with Independiente Medellin, has delivered at a faster rate. He now needs only six more goals to reach double digits in his debut campaign.
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Freitas Camilo believes Leon’s background gives him an edge. He points out that Colombian top league football is intense and physically demanding, which prepares players for tight schedules and high pressure matches. Camilo also highlights the importance of confidence in South American forwards. According to him, once Leon settles fully, he has the potential to dominate inside the penalty area.
Leon also benefits from having Spanish and Portuguese speaking teammates at Sundowns, easing communication and integration. That support system can speed up adaptation and help maintain focus on performance. The club’s attacking style, which often creates multiple scoring chances per match, suits a striker who thrives on service and movement. If he continues converting opportunities at this rate, Leon could become one of the standout January signings in recent PSL history.
With Sundowns competing on several fronts, squad rotation will offer Leon further chances to add to his tally. The next stretch of fixtures will test his consistency and endurance. If he keeps scoring at this pace, he will not only reach double figures but also cement his place as a key figure in Sundowns’ title ambitions.
