AFCON Review: Egypt Thrilled to Make It into Semi-finals! The Pharaohs defeated their North African rivals to prevail.

Egypt beat Morocco 2-1 in their AFCON quarterfinal encounter last night. The Egyptians expressed their delight in making it this far in the tournament.

It was Morocco who took an early lead in the quarter final. Influential right back Achraf Hakimi was brought down in the box to win a penalty for his side within the first 10 minutes of the match.

Sofiane Boufal stepped up to slot the ball past the Egyptian goalkeeper. Morocco went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

Superstar Mohamed Salah equalised for Egypt with a simple tap in from a rebound after Morocco’s goalkeeper had made an initial save. The game remained 1-1 going into extra-time.

Mohamed Salah then turned provider as he assisted for Mahmoud Trezeguet to score the winning goal.

“I think we played a good game against a very good Moroccan team.” The influential Salah said.

“My teammates do what is necessary in each game and give everything to go as far as possible.

“Playing two games in a row with extra-time is not easy, but I can tell you that we are well, and we are having a very good tournament” the captain lamented.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz was thrilled to seal entry into the last 4.

“Both teams deserved to qualify for the semi-finals with great players on both sides. I am satisfied with the performance of my players.

“We have a good group with players who fight together in all compartments. Mohamed Salah had a good match today but for me we have to congratulate the whole team.

“We have several injured players, but all the players gave their best to win this match.” the coach explained.
