Africa Day 2020
Masandawana, these are unprecedented times. Whether you are here in South Africa or with your loved ones across the continent, together we are fighting an invisible enemy – the Coronavirus pandemic.
It is what’s keeping us apart, from doing what we love and beating our drum in victory or in defeat. Our lives have been disrupted. But this will pass, we will triumph, Africa!
And when we do, we can finally meet again because football is what has brought us together in the past. It makes sense then, that it will reunite us once more. It’s during trying times that we reflect and after seven years in the CAF Champions League, we’ve found a home Zambia, Uganda, Morocco, Egypt and many of our African brothers and sisters have given us unmatched hospitality.
During the Fifa Club World Cup in Japan, the continent backed us. Remember when coach Pitso Mosimane was greeted by rousing applause in Rabat? That is a symbol of Africa’s unity.
For now, let us respect our government’s regulations and stay safe – wash our hands, use sanitizer and keep our social distancing to flatten the curve. We miss football. We miss you cheering us on, so we will need you more than ever when we come back. Our strength and unity will see us through.
