Bongani Zungu has been strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. However, his agent rubbished all such rumours.
According to the agent, Zungu has been stuck in South Africa due to covid-19 travel protocols. His visa has not yet been processed.
“I think what created the confusion is that when Bongani left to go to Rangers, Amiens didn’t publish any information about the fact that he renewed his contract for one more year.” Badara Wague, Zungu’s agent, told Soccer Laduma from all the way in France.
“No one knew that his contract would end in 2022 and not 2021.
“Also, Transfermarkt, a website people use for reference says his contract ends in June 2021 – so everyone thinks he is a free agent and wondering what is happening. But that is not the case, he still has a contract with Amiens.”
Bafana Bafana teammate and close friend Keagan Dolly signed a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs yesterday. Consequently, Zungu has also been strongly linked with a move to Amakhosi.
“It’s very difficult to get him a visa and get him back to France and that is why he is still in SA, we think it may take up to 10 days before this can be resolved because the process is so complicated,” Badara added.
“It’s true that his ambition is not to play for Amiens this season, but he is under contract and will respect that if he has to.
“But he wants to leave and has several options – his mind is no longer at Amiens. All the regular players have left the club since they got relegated from Ligue 1, so it is not the same ambition, which means the project has totally changed.
“Of course, he respects Amiens because they gave him the chance to get a step up but staying in Ligue 2 is not an option for him.”
