Akumu On First Goal For Amakhosi
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Anthony Akumu Agay, affectionately known as Teddy scored his first goal for Amakhosi in the much-talked-about game against Polokwane City on Saturday.
“I thank God that I was able to score my first goal for Kaizer Chiefs,” says the tall Kenyan international. “I am not only happy to score a goal; I am happy it was one of the goals that contributed to a great come back that saw us beat Polokwane City.”
Agay scored the equalising goal in the 76th minute of the match played at Loftus Stadium under Biologically Safe Environment on Saturday, 15 August.
“Before Bernard Parker took the corner kick, I was trying to organise the defence,” he reveals. “Just as Parker was about to kick the ball, Lebogang Manyama rallied me to go in to form part of the attack. I rushed to take a position; I saw where Samir Nurković was positioned in the near post and he was not going to be able to score easily from that angle. Nurković flicked the ball and it fell right in front of me for an easy tap in.”
The Kenyan arrived in Naturena during the January window period. He made his debut in the PSL in a league fixture against Maritzburg United on 5 February 2020. He played in the Soweto Derby on 29 February. On 3 March, he got a run against AmaZulu before the covid-19 Lockdown causing the suspension of the PSL fixture.
He also featured in the Nedbank Cup matches on 8 February and on 22 February against Royal Eagles and Highlands Park respectively.
The last time Agay scored a goal was for his former team, Zambia’s Zesco United in 4-1 win over Dynamos on 30 October 2019.
“This goal against Polokwane City is sweeter because it improves our chances of winning the league,” concludes the player popularly known as Akumu. “I wish to thank the Club for affording me this opportunity. What is left is to work hard to retain a place in the line-up. I want to contribute to the success of the Club.”
