Amazulu close to returning to the PSL.
The PSL has confirmed that the proposed sale of Thanda Royal Zulu’s PSL status to AmaZulu is likely to be finalised this week.
AmaZulu plans to buy the PSL status of Thanda, who confirmed selling it shortly after the team’s promotion from the NFD. For the past few weeks, AmaZulu has been waiting from the league to hear if they will finally make a return to the PSL, following their two-year absence from Mzansi’s top flight.
A failed attempt to buy the then PSL status of Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2015 meant that the Durban-based side was to ply its trade in the second tier of Mzansi football. After finishing two seasons in the NFD, having failed to gain promotion back to the PSL since being relegated at the end of the 2014/15 season, Usuthu is in the process of buying Thanda for their proposed return.
The finalisation of the deal and potential ownership change will be subject to the approval of the PSL.
For the transaction to be completed, all the requirements have to be met by all the parties involved, including the seller and the PSL’s Acting CEO, Mato Madlala, confirmed that the deal is nearing finalisation.
“It’s not yet finalised. We are pushing and from the side of the league, we are just dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s with the things that we need to finalise.
“If everything goes according to the plan, by the end of today or tomorrow (it will be finalised),” said Madlala.
According to a high-ranking PSL source, the deal is likely to go through with Usuthu expected to finally return to the top flight.
