AmaZulu Move Quickly in Transfer Market After Mass Player Exodus

AmaZulu FC have wasted no time diving into the transfer market following a major clear-out that has seen a host of players depart ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Durban-based club will head into the new campaign without the services of several experienced names, prompting an urgent recruitment drive.
Usuthu’s list of departures is extensive and includes key players like Augustine Mulenga, Junior Dion, Boniface Haba, Ethan Brooks, Veli Mothwa, Andile Mbanjwa, Abbubaker Mobara, Sandile Khumalo, Mbongeni Gumede, Kwanda Mngonyama, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Thembela Sikhakhane, Wayde Jooste, Skhulile Manyoni, Rowan Human, and Msindisi Kunene.
In addition, both Etiosa Ighodaro and Sifiso Ngobeni have returned to Mamelodi Sundowns following the expiry of their loan spells at the club.
The exodus has left AmaZulu particularly thin in the attacking department, with several forwards like Mulenga, Dion, Haba, and Ighodaro among those leaving. Recognizing the urgent need to bolster their front line, Usuthu have already made a key signing by securing Keagile Malepe from Pretoria Callies.
The 21-year-old striker caught attention during his debut season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he delivered eye-catching performances for Callies. Malepe’s move marks a significant step up as he now joins the DStv Premiership side with hopes of making an immediate impact.
Pretoria Callies chairman Moses Malada confirmed the transfer, highlighting Malepe’s rapid rise from amateur football to the professional ranks.
“Malepe joined us last season from an amateur club, but we have now done a transfer deal with AmaZulu,” said Malada. “We’re proud of the opportunities we’re providing for players to grow their careers.”
Malepe becomes the fourth outgoing transfer from Callies this window, following the moves of Saketso Moremi, Keorapetse Sebone, and Mpho Mavundlela to Polokwane City. Callies continue to build a reputation for nurturing and exporting talent to bigger clubs in South Africa’s top flight.
For AmaZulu, the recruitment drive is expected to continue as the club looks to rebuild a competitive squad capable of challenging in the new season. With multiple positions needing reinforcement, fans can anticipate more transfer announcements from Usuthu in the coming weeks.
