Kaizer Chiefs’ Dillan Solomons Focused on Comeback and Cup Glory After Injury Setbacks

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has opened up about his injury-riddled campaign, expressing optimism about returning to full form just as the season hits its decisive phase. The 25-year-old right-back has faced a tough year battling injuries and stiff competition for a regular spot in the starting eleven.

Despite the challenges, Solomons is now looking ahead with renewed determination as Chiefs prepare to host Marumo Gallants in a Betway Premiership clash on Saturday.

“I feel healthy and good after all the injury worries earlier in the season—the shoulder and then the hamstring problem,” Solomons told the media ahead of the match. “Good preparation every week and not just going to training and going home. There is a lot of preparation into keeping my body in good shape.”

The former Swallows FC player acknowledged that while the season hasn’t gone the way he initially hoped, he’s focused on doing everything possible to contribute positively to the team.

“Obviously I want to turn things around for myself, put in the work every day. When I’m healthy, I feel good and that I can help the team. I would have hoped for a lot more, but that is the way it was put out for me,” he added.

With Kaizer Chiefs eyeing a potential silverware breakthrough in the upcoming Nedbank Cup final against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on May 10, Solomons admitted it’s hard not to think ahead. However, he stressed the importance of approaching each game with focus and intent.

“It is difficult, obviously you are naturally focused on the final. Any human being would be excited for that moment,” he said. “But it is just about how you prepare mentally for each and every game. We know how far the final is, and there are two big games coming up for us.”

Chiefs’ two critical fixtures before the final include Saturday’s meeting with Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium, followed by a high-stakes Soweto Derby on May 3.

“People think Marumo is an easy team, but they are not. Then we have the derby before the big one, so those games speak for themselves,” Solomons explained. “It’s games where you have to be focused and go out there and show a lot of confidence and strength if you want to go into the final and win that final. So, those games before the final are important.”

With his fitness improving and a major final on the horizon, Solomons is intent on making his mark in the season’s final stretch and helping Kaizer Chiefs end their long wait for silverware.
