The two teams met for the inaugural FIFA series international friendly in Algeria. Within the opening five minutes, the opposing side took a 1-0 lead, but newcomer Elias Mokwana swiftly equalized for Bafana in the 25th minute.

Despite relentless efforts from Hugo Broos’s squad to secure a victory, their endeavors were hindered by subpar finishing and a dearth of creativity. After the pulsating encounter, the Bafana Bafana coach stated that the lack of strikers is the main problem in SA football.

“I think we learned a lot,” he said after the match. “This was a difficult game, so it was a good experience for the young guys who played for the first time. So I think now they know the difference between the PSL and this kind of game even when you play teams ranked 150 or something on FIFA rankings.”

“The goal for us was always to give those (uncapped) layers a chance to have that experience and I’m satisfied. I think we’ve shown again what is the problem with South African football, we don’t have a scorer, the guy who gets one chance and scores the goal. If you check, we had six or seven chances, and we only scored once,” Broos said.

Next up, Bafana is slated to square off against the FIFA Series hosts, Algeria, in the upcoming invitational association football competition set to take place on Tuesday.
