Andre De Jong Targets League Glory With Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates’ latest signing Andre De Jong has set his sights on ending the club’s 12-year league title drought. The New Zealand international joined the Buccaneers from Stellenbosch and believes the current squad has the quality to finally lift the Betway Premiership crown, last won in the 2011/12 season.
Speaking to the club’s media team, De Jong highlighted both collective and personal ambitions. He said the squad is focused on finishing the season strongly and maintaining momentum from their position at the top of the log at the halfway stage.
“I think it’s a goal of everyone at the club to win the league this year. It’s a great opportunity sitting on top at the break. In these two weeks we’ve just been pushing hard and improving our conditioning,” he stated.
De Jong also emphasized his personal contributions, aiming to make an impact both on and off the ball. “My goals are to contribute to the team as much as possible. I’d love to win the league, score goals, bring creativity in the final third, and work hard defensively,” he added.
He praised Pirates’ culture and defensive structure, noting that it allows players to perform at their best while maintaining team cohesion. “Pirates have a really good progressing culture and defensive structure. I aim to give my all whenever I play and contribute to winning,” De Jong said.
His arrival adds depth and attacking options for the Soweto giants as they prepare for a critical second half of the season. With Pirates leading the table at the midway point, De Jong’s signing strengthens their bid to finally end the league title wait.
