Anele Ngcongca Details Why He Believes Bafana Bafana Is Struggling! The 30 year old Bafana Bafana defender has played 41 games for the national team himself and believes he knows the root of the national team’s problems.
After failing to qualify for the World Cup 2018, Anele says Bafana Bafana has the potential to become a force in international football, but the problem is South Africa doesn’t have players in the major European leagues.
“Look, we don’t have players who are playing in the UEFA Champions League at this current moment. I can’t even mention one; it was Dino Ndlovu,” Ngcongca said.
“If you look at our national team, that’s why we are struggling. If you look at national teams like Senegal, their starting line up has players who are playing in the English Premiership and that’s what makes a difference.
“Let’s be honest about it, the standard in Europe is higher than in South Africa and our players need to move to go play in Europe, then I think we can have a better national team,” he added.
“But for the players that are going to Europe just to visit the [continent], it’s not good for our football, you know, especially if you look at our national team. We’ve got a few players that are playing in Europe, but they are also not playing regularly in their teams and it’s difficult. But it needs to be changed.”
