Anthony “AJ” Joshua Seeks To Redeem Self Against Andy Ruiz Tonight In Saudi Arabia
Anthony Joshua is aiming to win back heavyweight titles against Andy Ruiz Jr who six months ago shocked Joshua into surrendering his world heavyweight titles.
Anthony Joshua enters the ring with Andy Ruiz today as the British boxer looks to reclaim his WBO, WBA (Super), IBF and IBO heavyweight titles.
Anthony Joshua tipped the scales at 16st 13lbs during the weigh-in on Friday, it’s the lightest weight Joshua has ever been for a world title fight yet.
He looked astonishingly skinny as he stripped off his shirt in the late afternoon sunshine.
Joshua has trained for more speed and a big improvement in mobility, which he needs in that quick-built arena.
Andy Ruiz sent almost as big a shock through the open air crowds as when he knocked out AJ when he stepped up at a massive 20st 3lbs.
That is a full stone and one pound heavier than the New York night when he became Mexico’s first world heavyweight champion.
Ruiz is naturally fast so may have bulked up to be sure of the knock out, since he doubts he will get the decision if it goes to points even he deserves to win.
Has Joshua been duped into losing too much weight?
The proof of the pudding, so to speak, will simply come on Saturday night. Will the weight gap make a difference to either fighter? Can Ruiz upset the odds again? Does Joshua have a new game-plan up his sleeve?
