Kaizer Chiefs Applaud Hugo Broos Following AFCON Preliminary Squad Announcement

Kaizer Chiefs have expressed strong support for Hugo Broos after he unveiled his preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The announcement, which featured players from multiple PSL clubs, included four Chiefs representatives: Brandon Petersen, Thabiso Monyane, Bradley Cross, and Mduduzi Shabalala. The squad is heavily populated by Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns players, with 12 and 10 selections respectively.

Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. praised Broos for his consistent results with Bafana Bafana. Speaking ahead of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team departure for England, Motaung highlighted the coach’s tactical approach and the challenge of qualifying for major tournaments. He said that Broos has established a formula that delivers results and ensures Bafana remain competitive on the continental stage.

Motaung emphasized that club performance remains crucial for national team consideration. He encouraged Chiefs players to maintain focus at the club level, noting that league form and commitment directly influence opportunities at AFCON. “They have got to work, put their heads down and give the best for the club,” he said.

The selection of four Chiefs players provides both recognition and motivation. While the preliminary squad does not guarantee a place in the final AFCON roster, it serves as a boost for the club’s players. Motaung expressed hope that even more Chiefs players could be included in the final squad while commending Broos for his leadership and vision.

He described the work of Hugo Broos as “tremendous,” highlighting the importance of his methods in securing both AFCON qualification and sustained progress for the national team. The Chiefs’ acknowledgment reinforces the club’s commitment to supporting their players at the national level and celebrates the impact of Broos’ management on South African football.
