Arthur Zwane Relieved to Make It to Nedbank Cup Next Round! Amakhosi defeated The Team of Choice last time around.

Kaizer Chiefs won 2-0 away to Maritzburg United on Friday night in the Nedbank Cup. Head coach Arthur Zwane was happy to start their cup hunt with a win.

The game was won in extra time, thanks to goals from Christian Saile Basomboli and Ashley Du Preez.

“Look, I think we started like a house on fire today. We had a couple of chances; I think in 15 minutes we had about 3,” Zwane told SuperSport TV.

“The ‘keeper [King Ndlovu] I think made good saves and we were in control of the game. I think first half we were on top of them, and then second half obviously now, they’ve got a red card. Its always difficult to play against a team that’s got a red card.

“Look, obviously they’ll form that block you know. They’ll always wait for the right moment to attack you.

“And that’s what we said to the guys you know, we said they are going to be pumping the balls to [Kwame] Peprah because he is strong you know, physically he’s very good at holding the ball. As soon as he holds the ball, we allow him to hold the ball then the rest will join. I think the young man, number 20, gave us a problem.

“Because if you look at the chances they had, anything could have happened. We went on to sleep a little bit because we thought now, we are on top of them. But we were not playing the ball in the right areas to hurt them.

“And until Happy [Mashiane] did the right thing, played a couple of those [balls] that were dangerous in the box. Now we needed numbers to flood the box to make sure that ball doesn’t go across the box and luckily Zitha [Kwinika] had the other side covered and then he brought it back into play and that is how we got the first goal.” He stated.
