Augustine Muwowo Opens Up On His Future With Pirates

Orlando Pirates winger Augustine Muwowo is reportedly looking to fight for his place at the club following his loan spell at Swallows in the previous season. The Zambian international had six appearances at the Birds in the last campaign. Phakaathi’s source says Muwowo wants to remain at Pirates.

“He was a super star back in Zambia, he is actually one of the gifted players to come out from there. But, things haven’t really worked out well for him since he came to South Africa. Look, he was sent out on loan, but still, things were bad for him. He did not play much and that makes it difficult for your team to assess you and believe that you will be able to fit in with them and do the job when you come back,” said the source.

“But, he is one person who is very positive and all he wants to do is to play football. He wants to remain at Pirates, he wants to prove himself. It is a pity that things don’t look good and I am not sure whether he will be sent out on loan or what is going to happen with him because at the moment no one is safe and they can be let go. Look at players like Linda Mntambo or Ntsikelelo Nyauza, no one really saw it coming. The management is discussing contracts with players, so there will be a decision made soon.”

BOOTH BACKS PIRATES NEW COACH

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth says Orlando Pirates’ newly appointed coach Jose Riveiro must be given a chance to prove himself. The Spanish coach was announced as Bucs manager a few weeks ago and has already faced criticism as many are doubting him since it will be his second-time head coaching a professional team.

“We will see what his strong points are and what his weaknesses are when we see him working. We will see with the type of substitutes that he makes early on in the season and we have to wait and see what type of manager he is. Does he get on with the players or not? At the moment, we know very little about him,” said Booth as per The Citizen.

Booth believes Ezimnyama Ngenkani came close to matching Mamelodi Sundowns in the recent past seasons. Pirates had a great depth in the squad but couldn’t come up with a balanced team to dominate as Masandawana have been doing.

“Over the past three seasons I thought Pirates were going to challenge Sundowns. They have been a bit disappointing towards the end of last season and unfortunately it seems they have pushed the reset button again from a coaching and playing point of view,” added Booth.

“I hope that they are able to hit the ground running because we need a strong Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates for this league to be vibrant again.”
