Bafana Bafana defeated West Africans Ghana 1-0 at the FNB Stadium last night. Maritzburg United striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored the winner in the 84th minute.
The game itself was one which the hosts dominated. The South Africans were unlucky to be denied a legitimate goal in the game but was wrongly ruled out for offside.
The greatest chance came when Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori presented the hosts with a glorious chance to take the lead.
Teboho Mokoena surged on the flank and provided a poor cross into the box. Ofori completely missed a ball which he was supposed to grab, and the ball fell to Evidence Makgopa.
The lanky striker was clearly surprised that the ball had made his way to him and could not find his feet at the ball bounced off him. He missed an empty net.
Mothobi Mvala attempted a spectacular overhead kick in the second half. Hlongwane produced hard ball which the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder manoeuvred into the air and his attempt went narrowly wide.
The hosts finally took a deserved lead in the 84th minute. Teboho Mokoena provided a ball which striker Hlongwane just had to tap in to claim the winner.
