The defeat simply means that Sudan qualify alongside Ghana for the showpiece tournament in Cameroon next January.

Sudan scored two first half goals to all but put the result beyond Bafana Bafana. The game was turbid in the second half and there was no way through the Sudanese defence.

This means that South Africa has failed to qualify for four of the last 7 editions of the AFCON. This is despite this tournament having 24 teams, more than the previous editions.
