Bandile Shandu Privileged to Join Big Club Like Orlando Pirates! The former Maritzburg United player has joined on a three-year contract.

The brand-new Orlando Pirates recruit joins after spending 9 years with The Team of Choice. In his first ever transfer as a professional player, Bandile Shandu will hope to break into the Buccaneers squad.

Shandu joined alongside Kwanda Mngonyama, Monnaule Saleng and Goodman Mosele last week. He has already started pre-season training with the Pirates squad and coaching staff.

“It’s such a privilege and honour to be part of this great Club. So, I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season.” He told the club website.

“I played for Maritzburg United since I was just 17-years-old, so moving to another club was a bit of a first for me. So, I am glad to have received a warm welcome from my new teammates as well as the coaches.

“That has made things easier, and I’m really grateful for that.” He spoke.

The transition from Maritzburg United to Orlando Pirates has been a common one in recent years. He is the fifth player to complete the transfer in recent years.

This follows Richard Ofori, Fortune Makaringe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Kwanda Mngonyama. Former Maritzburg United player and coach Fadlu Davids is the assistant coach at Pirates, as well.

The expectations of plating for Pirates are much different to the expectations of playing for Maritzburg. There is a bigger microscope and bigger media attention to Pirate players.

“Most definitely. Pirates is a big Club – one of the biggest in South Africa.

“So, I’m expecting a different type of pressure. I know there is a demand for results, and I’m aware that I have to do my best to contribute to positive results for the team.” Shandu added.
