Bandile Shandu Wants to Play Big Brother Role to Thabiso Monyane! The young man has staked his claim in the starting XI.
Bandile Shandu and Thabiso Monyane are both vying for the same right back position at Orlando Pirates. The former is keen to be big brother to the younger.
Since José Riveiro took over at Orlando Pirates, he has given Monyane an extended run in the squad. This is something that the young man has grabbed with both hands.
Of course, this means that the usually ever-present Shandu now must be patient as game time is more competitive now. However, he has said that he wants to mentor his junior.
“It’s my first time playing that big brother role to a teammate, and I am enjoying it,” Shandu told the press at Rand Stadium yesterday.
“Seeing him doing what he’s doing right now makes me happy. I just hope that he continues like this.
“I always communicate with him that he must do what works for him as it is happening right now.
“You can see the way Thabiso has been playing… he’s started the season very, very good and we’re supporting each other, that’s what a team is all about. We push each other every single day.
“For me, the team is more important and whatever comes after that is a bonus. I am not focusing on Bafana, and I am not focusing on any other individual targets.
“It’s just making sure that as a team we achieve our collective goal of collecting three points in each and every game,” he added.
