Barça Rewind: The 1000th LaLiga game
Wednesday, April 16, 1969, was the date of FC Barcelona’s 1000th LaLiga match, coming in week 30 of the 1968/69 campaign.
Barça had come into the game having only won one of their previous six matches, though visitors Valencia had only fared marginally better having managed two wins from their previous half dozen.
Referee, Alberto Martin Alvarez, had a largely incident-free evening, with both sides playing on the front foot and going for the win throughout. Los Che, coached by Joseito, would leave with a point after a 1-1 draw against Artigas’ side on that balmy spring evening at Camp Nou.
Palau earns a point
Ansola had given the visitors the lead after 56 minutes, and with time running out, his goal looked to have won Valencia the game. However, with 16 left to play, Palau equalised for the Blaugranes, and the point meant that they remained in third place, but still 11 points behind leaders, Real Madrid.
