Belgian Radja Nainggolan Suspended for Smoking on The Bench! The veteran midfielder is very open about his smoking habits.

Radja Nainggolan joined Belgian outfit Antwerp in the transfer window after his contract was terminated by Inter Milan. It seems he has taken his smoking habit with him back to his home country.

The 34-year-old was pictured smoking an e-cigarette on the bench as Antwerp lost 3-1 to Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League. The club suspended him indefinitely after this incident.

“RAFC today had a conversation with Radja Nainggolan about his general functioning and about how certain behaviours reflect on the club and the group of players,” a statement from the club read.

“The club has decided to expel Radja from the A-team indefinitely. Clear agreements have also been made about what our club does and does not expect from its player.

“Neither player nor club will comment further on this.

“The focus is once again shifting to the sportive and to the two important home matches, later this week, against KV Oostende and KRC Genk.” The statement read.

Nainggolan has been labelled one of the bad boys of his generation of football. This is because of his demeanour off the pitch.

He is very open about his smoking habits and doesn’t wasn’t to be ostracized for it.

“I am a normal person, not a bad boy as most people label me,” he told France Football (Ballon d’Or) earlier this year.

“I can walk in the worst neighbourhoods and live in a normal way. I can get the treatment most players have, but it doesn’t mean that I look for it.

“I shop at the supermarket; I can drink a glass [of alcohol] and smoke a cigarette with serenity.

“A footballer can smoke, even if he does not do a ‘normal’ job. Hiding one thing means you have other things to hide.” He added.
