Benni McCarthy Feels AmaZulu Were Slightly Better Than Mamelodi Sundowns! Usuthu drew 0-0 with Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership on Wednesday evening.
The goalless draw keeps the gap between the 2 clubs at 6 points. The Brazilians have 2 games in hand though and are now heavy favourites to retain their DSTV Premiership title once again.
McCarthy feels as if his side did more to acquire all three points on the day.
“Both teams were having a real go at it, and it was a good display of South African football. Pity, there we no goals.” He told the media after the game.
“Tactically it was a very perfect game from both teams, as much as I think my team were slightly better and had the upper hand. We also probably had more of the game winning opportunities.
“I know Sundowns had that one chance with the counter because but other than that they didn’t really cause much of a threat to our goal.
“Veli had one of the easiest games in a very long time in goals because defensively we very well structured, we were very organized, we did not make silly mistakes.
“I think we were by far a well-organized team and when we had opportunities to break on the counter and from transition, we did that with quality and speed but unfortunately our end product let us down a little bit.
“In the end, a fair result for both teams, but for me a more disappointing one because three points is what would take ever so closely to our rivals Sundowns.
“A draw suited them very well as they still stay six points ahead of us. They would be the happier, but I am super proud of the players, the whole team in general for the tenacity, the hunger and desire that they have.
“To be so dominant against a Sundowns team where so many people have said when teams play Sundowns they literally park the bus, and I could swear it was a little bit the other way around.
“In a long time, I had not seen Sphelele Mkhulise, Lebohang Maboe, Rivaldo Coetzee, Lyle Lakay, Thapelo Morena defend as much as they did today because they were on the back foot from our players.
“I think the outcome was fair, but I always want more,” the coach added. Benni McCarthy Feels AmaZulu Were Slightly Better Than Mamelodi Sundowns!
