Benni McCarthy was talking to Power FM. He said that he is waiting on club president to conclude the deal.

“I think maybe on Monday there will be a decision because I gave my verdict of the player to the president. And I’ve told him [that] I’ve seen the quality that the player can bring, that the player doesn’t have.

“His strength and his weaknesses. So I analysed him, I observed him and yeah, I gave the president the verdict.

“So, now the president has to see what he can do or if it’s something that could interest us. I hope that it’s positive. That it’s good.” McCarthy told the radio station.

The imminent arrival of Qalinge doesn’t look good for Phakamani Mahlambi. The Mamelodi Sundowns loanee will fall even further down the pecking order.

“I’m signing a player that’s gonna be the future for the club. I want to sign a player that’s gonna be our player, whether Phakamani plays or he doesn’t play.

“If he was doing well, he was gonna go back to Sundowns and benefit Sundowns in a way. So I’m adding a player that’s gonna be an AmaZulu player, first of all.

“And the story is, like I told you, players must impress themselves. They mustn’t impress me because I don’t wanna be impressed by a player.

“I’m only impressed, when he’s impressed. And you have to work to get in the team.

“Everyone that’s playing in the team that we put out every single match is players that deserve to be there. No one is there because I like them or I don’t like them.

“Everyone that plays, are playing because they work hard. They are the best players for the week in training.

“And they are the best players that the coaching staff and myself think we can send out there and will do justice for the team and will win us games. The players who don’t play or don’t find themselves in the team, they have to look at themselves in the mirror,” McCarthy went on.

AmaZulu plays Black Leopards on Sunday (4 April 2021).
