Benni McCarthy Queries Khune And Mathoho Selections For Rio
Benni McCarthy is not happy about Itumeleng Khune and Eric Mathoho been selected as the over-aged players to represent Souyh Africa in Rio. Benni pointed out a piece of his mind that he does not get it at all the reason why Khune and Mathoho were selected while they have been there before instead of giving youngsters some chances.
McCarthy he is not happy,he pointed out that, khune and Mathoho have been there before, instead of selecting the youngsters who haven’t been before they selected the two. Then he said that’s the reason why our youngsters lack experience because they’re not exposed to international football.
“I don’t see the point at all. These boys have been together for a long time in matches, camps and qualifiers and now the Olympics are here, overage players are chosen,” former Bafana Bafana striker McCarthy told SunSport.
“I believe players who fought hard to qualify should be selected. What are the chances of playing in the Olympics again? You’re killing their spirit.
“In 2000, we took Brian Baloyi as our overage player. There was no point at all because Brian did not play. Emile Baron played all three matches.”
“We’ll be crying that we don’t have enough experience at international level and yet when opportunities come for youngsters, we snub them and choose overage players. I don’t think it should be done … most countries don’t.” McCarthy pointed out
