Big Guns Advance in Telkom Knockout

It is definitely game on in the Telkom Knockout as the Big Three, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns all managed to secure wins to keep their hopes of silverware alive.

Cup kings, Supersport United fresh from MTN8 triumph also remained on course for another trophy.

Mamelodi Sundowns were the biggest winners and showed complete dominance in their convincing 5-0 Telkom Knockout thrashing of AmaZulu at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates made heavy weather of their passage to the last 8 missing an avalanche of glaring chances before Thembinkosi Lorch broke the deadlock five minutes from time to eliminate Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers Stellebosch FC 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Samir Nurkovic scored a late equaliser as Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to claim a 4-2 victory on post-match penalties against Cape Town City after Kermit Erasmus had given City a first half lead in front of almost 35,000 fans at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Defending Telkom Knockout Cup champions Baroka FC suffered a 3-2 penalty shootout (1-1 after extra-time) defeat to Supersport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday evening.

The opening goal of the game came just short of the hour mark as Bakgaga were awarded a penalty after Onismor Bhasera pushed Richard Mbulu over in the penalty area.

Mdantsane stepped up to the plate and coolly slotted the ball past Ronwen Williams to give the hosts the lead.

Bradley Grobler levelled matters with virtually the final kick of the second half.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Highlands Park, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United make the complement of teams to qualify for the quarter finals whilst the winner between Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic will complete the list of teams to be drawn for potential mouth watering clashes.
