Big Update on Jody February’s Future at Mamelodi Sundowns

There has been a major development regarding the future of Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Jody February, who has spent much of his time at the club behind Ronwen Williams and Denis Onyango in the pecking order.

With Williams firmly established as Sundowns’ first-choice shot-stopper and Onyango serving as the reliable second option, February has found game time hard to come by. The competition doesn’t stop there, with Reyaad Pieterse and Sanele Tshabalala also pushing for places, making the situation even more complicated for the 29-year-old.

Every transfer window, speculation around February’s future surfaces, with many linking him to possible moves away from Chloorkop in search of regular football. However, according to the latest update from his management, February’s immediate future at Sundowns is secured.

Mike Makaab of ProSport International, who represents the former South Africa U23 international, confirmed that Sundowns have exercised the contract extension option in February’s deal, keeping him at the club beyond the expiry of his current contract, which was set for June 30.

Makaab explained that February was notably absent when Sundowns traveled to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup last season, following a meniscus injury he picked up just before the tournament. The goalkeeper has since undergone surgery and is currently in rehabilitation as he works towards full fitness.

Since joining Sundowns from Ajax Cape Town in 2019, February has collected two DStv Premiership titles and an MTN8 trophy. Despite these achievements, game time has been limited. During the 2024/25 season, February made just seven appearances, conceding six goals and keeping three clean sheets.

Makaab reiterated that February remains committed to Sundowns and will continue fighting for his place in one of the most competitive goalkeeping departments in South African football.
