Billiat-Castro Haunt Former Pay Masters
A masterclass performance from Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro gave fans a nostalgic feeling when they together with Keegan Dolly partnered in the “CBD” formation that powered Sundowns to the summit of African football.
The famous CBD partnership inclusive of the French based Dolly saw Sundowns bag the Absa Premiership title and The African Champions League in a monumental year for South African football.
Castro and Billiat goal action and dominance inside the first 45minutes led Kaizer Chiefs put defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns to the sword in the 2019 edition of the Shell Ultra Helix Cup played at the FNB stadium on Saturday.
The rout from Leonardo Castro started in the 9th minute with the Colombian striker scoring two more classic goals before the breather profiteering a hat-trick from the unplayable Khama Billat who provided all assists.
It might be no wonder that Sundowns coach Mosimane was chasing the signature of the mercurial Zimbabwean forward and his performance on the day was testament to what he can do when on song.
Leonardo Castro who has seen little action this season gave impetus to his call for more game time with a man of the match performance that included 3 goals and an assist for ex-Downs and now Chiefs, strike partner Khama Billiat, who added a fourth in first half added time.
Billiat-Castro partnership underutilised this season provided the tonic needed to unlock Sundowns and by half-time it was 4-0 to the good for the glamour boys, Amakhosi.
Mosimane was forced to eat humble pie after his week in, week out spat with Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp as two of his former sons gave Mazinyo the early bragging rights going into the first league encounter between the two sides on October 27 at Loftus Versfeld.
“They were clinical in the first half and they did the job. We lost to a strong team, hard running and powerful – the CBD was on fire, it reminds me of my days with them. They came back to bite me. It’s good to see them (Castro and Billiat) play like this because that is what they are. ” alluded Mosimane in a post-match interview.
“It’s OK‚ it’s part of the game – we move on‚ we meet again in two weeks” added Mosimane whilst labelling Chiefs title favourites in one of his typical execution of mind games that he has now become so much accustomed to against potential threats to his local football dominance.
