Kgoloko Thobejane Backs Kabelo Kgositsile for Orlando Pirates Move

Former Baroka FC head coach Kgoloko Thobejane has expressed his confidence in young midfielder Kabelo Kgositsile, who is reportedly set to join Orlando Pirates at the end of the current season. While the deal is yet to be finalized, Baroka FC has agreed in principle to sell the 21-year-old to the Soweto giants.

Thobejane, who played a crucial role in Kgositsile’s development, believes the talented midfielder is more than ready to make the step up to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“Kgositsile is my boy; he comes from my mentorship and is from around Lephalale,” Thobejane told KickOff. “It would be great for him to join a team like Orlando Pirates. I was the one who signed him for Baroka in 2021 when I was there. I’m telling you, that boy is more than ready for the PSL.”

The former Baroka tactician highlighted Kgositsile’s skill set, praising his dribbling ability, passing range, and tactical intelligence. He believes the young midfielder would seamlessly fit into the Buccaneers’ attacking system.

“He is a skilled dribbler, has great passing ability, and possesses an excellent football brain. He’s very clever in attack and will fit in perfectly at Pirates. They must pursue him; he is still young, having been born in 2004,” Thobejane added.

Thobejane Dismisses Comparisons to Mofokeng

While Kgositsile’s talent has drawn attention, Thobejane insists it would be a mistake to compare him to Pirates’ starlet Relebohile Mofokeng. According to him, Mofokeng is in a league of his own and should only be compared to the world’s elite.

“In South Africa, you shouldn’t compare anyone to Mofokeng. Instead, compare Mofokeng to players like Lamine Yamal; his football intelligence is extraordinary. He is truly a genius,” he said.

Thobejane further emphasized that players of Mofokeng’s caliber require minimal coaching, likening his natural talent to that of global superstars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“As Mofokeng’s coach, you should expect to see something new from him every time he plays. Players of Mofokeng’s caliber don’t need coaching; you just put them on the field and let them express themselves,” he added.

“This idea of coaching applies to players who struggle to play. You cannot coach someone like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo; for them, it comes naturally. You also can’t coach Mohau Nkota to score goals; that’s his specialty.”

What’s Next for Kgositsile?

With the deal between Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates reportedly in its final stages, Kgositsile could soon be donning the famous black and white jersey. If Thobejane’s confidence in him is anything to go by, Pirates may have secured a gem for the future.

As the Buccaneers look to strengthen their squad ahead of the next campaign, Kgositsile will be eager to prove himself on the biggest stage and make a lasting impression in the PSL.
