Bongani Zungu Makes His Rangers Debut in Staggering 8-0 Win! The midfielder came on at half time as Rangers trounced Hamilton 8-0. This is a result that keeps Rangers at the top of the table.
Bongani Zungu made his long-awaited debut for Rangers this weekend. He missed two Europa League games and one Scottish Premier League game.
It seems as if his half time introduction means that he is very close to gaining the full match fitness that his teammates.
Zungu will now embark on international duty with Bafana Bafana. It will be interesting to see whether he starts for Rangers when club football returns.
Manager Steven Gerrard admitted that it was easier to gift Bongani Zungu his debut at half time because the score line was already at 4-0.
“Bongani came on and kept us balanced behind the ball and kept it ticking over.” Gerrard told the Rangers website.
“He showed his range of passing and his aggressiveness in his profile, so he is only going to get better and better with time.
“We were comfortable when he came into the game, but it was about the second-half performance.”
“We demanded top standards at half-time all the way through and I wanted more goals.” Gerrard added.
Rangers right back and captain James Tavernier won the Man of the Match award.
He praised the Rangers technical team for scouting the likes of Bongani Zungu.
“It’s praise to the gaffer, the management team and the club with how they have dealt with the transfer window, the improvement of the squad and the depth of the squad and how strong it is.” Tavernier told Rangers TV.
“You can see today boys in the starting XI getting a chance, and even at half time, Zungu and Calvin came on, Brandon came on and got a goal, so it is tremendous that we have got great strength in our squad that we can rely on everyone in the team.” He added.
