Bucs And Sundowns Charged
Following a clash between Pirates and Sundowns supporters on the 11th of February, both teams have been charged for the scene that unfolded. Pirates is charged for contravening Rule 54 of the NSL Rules arising from the conduct of their supporters at the match after the club’s supporters invaded the pitch, threw objects and vandalized and damaged private property during the game.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been charged for their failure to have provide adequate security. For a game of such caliber it is important to enforce security so that things do not get out of hand. Both teams will have their side of the stick when they appear before the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee on 9 March. Such scenes are intolerable in football and I am sure PSL Disciplinary Committee will make sure that such does not happen again.
If you go to Egypt, over the years fans have been banned from attending football matches due to clashes, fights and invading the pitch resulting in disrupting the game. This is totally unacceptable although it should be argued that football is a sport of emotions and emotions flare up. The derby is coming up on the 4th of March and I am sure Pirates and Chiefs will work hard in enforcing security and making sure that the game is respected and it unfolds as expected. However, the issue of safety is not just about the pitch and making sure that games are not disrupted but PSL must work with SAPS in ensuring that people are not mugged, cars are not stolen and fake tickets are not being sold at games.
