Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies midfield maestro Thalea Smidt is kind of a box-to-box midfielder who can have a massive impact both defensively and offensively.
She’s one of the stars that shone with Downs Ladies when they made history by winning the first Women’s CAF Champions League that was held in Cairo last year. She likes to pose and take pictures when she’s off the field. Take a look if you can recognize her!
As per Sundowns’ website, The Cape Town-born star was a part of Santos FC and Spurs FC youth structures in her hometown before joining the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Varsity football team and showed her skills there.
UWC were runners-up twice in Varsity Cup where Smidt played a huge role in attempting to achieve the championship. Smidt joined UP-TUKS (University of Pretoria) after graduating from UWC and represented South Africa at the University World Student games on a number of occasions and the junior u/20 National team.
She went on to captain the TUKS and was part of the Brazilians squad that won COSAFA CAF Women’s Qualifiers before they came out victorious in the Women’s Champions League.
Tau’s dream is to play in Europe and she said would like to play in France as she is a big fan of Paris Saint-Germain. “I would like to play in the big leagues in Europe. England, Spain, and France are some leagues that I see myself at.”
“I like the French league, and I am a big fan of the PSG style of play.
“Playing abroad is definitely part of my ambitions.”
Apart from winning Champions League and COSAFA CAF Women’s Qualifiers, Smidt’s teammates won the first Hollywoodbets Women’s Super League.
