Cape Town City Re-Hire Former Coach Eric Tinkler! The former Maritzburg United head coach had been without work since being sacked last year.
Cape Town City has hired Eric Tinkler on a 3 year contract. He will coach the Cityzens for the second time now.
The club announced last week that they have parted ways with Dutchman Jan Olde Riekerink. This was after two successive defeats in the DSTV Premiership.
Riekerink was initially put on suspension. However, it was highly unlikely that he would return from suspension.
John Comitis, Cape Town City chairman, made the announcement this morning. Eric Tinkler was very happy to return to his old stomping ground.
“This has always been one of my favourite stadiums, I was part of the beginnings of the club, its first season and it ended up being a fantastic season,” Eric Tinkler said.
“That will always stay in memory for a very long time. Now obviously the task has to be greater, I’m Eric Tinkler and I’m City FC.”
Tinkler began the season with Maritzburg United. He was let go by Chairman Farook Kadodia after losing all of their matches at the beginning of the season.
Ironically, he finds himself at a club that is better placed on the PSL table this season.
Cape Town City are on 7th place with two matches remaining. They play relegation destined Black Leopards and champions elect Mamelodi Sundowns in their remaining two fixtures.
