CAS Dismisses Royal AM And Rules in Favour of Sekhukhune United! This case has been in the air since September.
Last year Royal AM reached out to CAS to appeal against the PSL and Sekhukhune United. The case has since been dismissed and the league can move on from this.
On 23 May 2021 Sekhukhune United were confirmed the GladAfrica Championship winners for last season. However, this was no normal title win.
They were given 3 points by the PSL with only one match to go. This was because of their match against Polokwane City earlier in that campaign.
The Limpopo outfit had to essentially forfeit the match 3-0 after failing to field the necessary amount of u/23 players, thus failing to comply with their quota. These three points were not awarded to Babina Noko immediately, they only received them before the last league match in the NFD last season.
Royal AM appealed the decision to award them three points on the cusp of the league ending. As a result, they took this matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
The CAS statement read as:
“1. CAS has no jurisdiction to hear the appeal filed by Royal AM Football Club on 7 September 2021.
“2. The costs of the arbitration, to be determined and served to the parties by the CAS Court Office, shall be borne by Royal AM Football Club.
“3. Royal AM Football Club shall pay to the National Soccer League and Sekhukhune United FC a contribution of CHF 4.000 (four thousand Swiss Francs/R63 449) each towards the legal fees and other expenses incurred in connection with the present arbitration procedure. All other Parties shall bear their own expenses.”
