It is unknown why the Duduza-born midfielder took such a long break on social media. Things haven’t been going well for the 29-year-old overseas. In 2020, Zungu was loaned to Rangers who were initially planning to sign him permanently from Amiens at the end of the season, as reported by outlets In Scotland.

During the lockdown, football players were urged to stay in doors to keep themselves safe from catching the virus. However, Zungu was reportedly found in an illegal house party. Hence, the Scottish FA handed him and four of his teammates six-match bans for breaching Coronavirus rules in the country.

Many said, this is the reason why Zungu wasn’t signed permanently by Rangers, however, he said that wasn’t the case. “I want to give my version of what happened when the media said I went to a party,” he said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“You know how hard it was for me to arrive there and not see anyone except my teammates for about six months? I was going to training, the game then home and repeating it over and over.”

Zungu continued: “When I got into trouble, I didn’t mean for that to happen. I went to Calvin Bassey’s home, and I thought that was safe because we test (for Covid) all the time at the club.

“I was shocked people said there was a party. I took a picture with someone there, but the whole thing was blown out of proportion, especially in South Africa and now everyone thinks I didn’t stay at Rangers because of that. But people’s opinions don’t bother me.

“My experience there wasn’t great on the pitch yes, but the team was winning, and I had to understand that Steven Gerrard can’t just change the winning formula.

“Rangers paid a loan fee, obviously, which showed the coach was really interested. But to make it permanent became too expensive.”

Now, Zungu’s contract with Amiens will be coming to an end in June and it has been confirmed that he won’t be extending it. Amiens’ Sporting Director John Williams revealed the news.

“On the departure side precisely, Kader Bamba will not stay at the end of his loan. Yohan Thuram, Bongani Zungu, Matthieu Dossevi, Adama Diakhaby and Arnaud Lusamba will be out of contract and not extended,” Williams said via Maligue2.
