A ball struck his left eye in training, the doctors deemed Mhlongo partially blind, after this. Thus, he had to retire from professional football immediately.
Marumo Gallants then had no choice but to cancel the contract of the goalminder. Since then, Mhlongo has been in a legal dispute involving his club.
The PSL insures players against career ending injuries, to preserve their immediate financial future. The pay-out is said to be R4 million, with the club and player splitting R2 million each.
However, Marumo Gallants have apparently failed to pay the goalkeeper approximately 3 months of his salary. As a result, the Mhlongo camp may be beneficiaries of the entire pay out, excluding Marumo Gallants.
