Sundowns’ Chairman Responds To Zungu And Williams Rumours

Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has responded to rumours that link Bongani Zungu and Ronwen Williams with the Pretoria-based club. Masandawana are known to be aggressive when it comes to the market during the transfer window.

Sundowns have already secured the signature of the midfielder Sipho Mbule from SuperSport United who will be reuniting with his former Matsatsantsa teammates: Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba, and Tebogo Mokoena.

Now, it remains to be seen where their next move will be. Zungu will have his contract running out at the end of this month at Amiens SC in French League 2. Some insiders confirmed that the Duduza-born’s contract won’t be renewed. While SABC Sport revealed that Sundowns have already offered Zungu a contract.

Motsepe admitted that they’ll be bringing in more players but refused to speak about Zungu and Williams when asked. “At the moment obviously we can’t talk about any players that aren’t at the football club and not part of our organisation,” he said as per iDiski Times.

“But we will be looking to bring in players as the transfer window progresses, but right now it would be disrespectful to talk about players [who are] not at this football club.”

The Brazilians surely took some notes last season about which areas they must reinforce. Especially as they are going all out to compete for CAF Champions League every season, those signings should help them lift the trophy next season. Motsepe spoke about their plans for the next edition of the competition.

“We have to be bold and as I always say at Mamelodi Sundowns, we want to be successful in the Champions League and we want to win the Champions League,” he said.

“Last season it was a bit of a disappointment at how we exited, but there were a lot of positives we can draw from the way the club performed, the way we played and the opponents that we faced.

“It’s about us now making sure that when we start the season, we always start fairly strong, I mean last season we bagged that MTN8 and that had a positive effect on the team. Where we will look to strengthen is making sure that when we’re out of the group stage, the mentality shifts.

“We will look to be more ruthless and I know with our Coaches, Sporting Director, they are working already on thinking on how we can improve and where we need to improve, so we’re positive and optimistic about the season ahead.”
