Chiefs Debutant Sifama Is Over The Moon
I was very happy to make my debut for Kaizer Chiefs,” says Keletso Sifama after playing his first game for the senior team. “After knowing I would be in the team, I immediately called my grandmother to inform her that I was selected to be part of the team. She received my call with excitement and told me how proud she was of me. I was pleased to hear my grandmother so happy.”
Sifama arrived at Chiefs two years ago, playing in the Gauteng Development League, before being promoted to the Reserve League Team under coach Arthur Zwane’s mentorship at the start of the season.
He made the Kaizer Chiefs senior team debut as a substitute coming on in the 86th minute of a pulsating thrill-a-minute win over Polokwane City on Saturday, 15 August 2020.
“Coach Ernst Middendorp informed me on Friday before match day that I would be in the team,” says the Katlehong born attacker. “It was a moment of truth for me since I joined the Kaizer Chiefs Development Academy. I called coach Wanda Mtshali at my former development team, Kathorous Hyper Academy. He was happy and advised me to do what I know and not panic if I get a chance to play. He also reminded me to remain calm and play my normal game if I get a run.”
In no time, with his first touch, Sifama created a penalty after mesmerizing City’s defence who had no other option but to obstruct the youngster. Regular penalty taker Daniel Cardoso uncharacteristically hit the crossbar.
“After the game coach Shaun Bartlett congratulated me for my effort,” concludes the 17-year-old player. “He told me to stay focused from here on. I look forward to getting more chances in the future and will continue to work hard.”
Kaizer Chiefs won the match 3-2 to stay on top of the log.
