Chiefs Extends Willard Katsande’s Break
Chiefs extends Willard Katsande’s break while the rest of the Chiefs squad returns to pre-season training. Chiefs have alleged to Katsande’s involvement with the Zimbabwe national team as a reason why he won’t be training, even though his last involvement with them was five weeks ago.
The same offer has not been made to Itumeleng Khune, Erick Mathoho and Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who were all involved with South Africa in Gambia at the same time.
The club also confirmed that veteran winger Siphiwe Tshabalala and new midfielder Keagan Buchanan are currently injured.
Komphela will get a first real opportunity to see his players in action during the Carling Black Label Cup against Orlando Pirates on July 30.
“I am happy with the mood in the team,” Komphela told his club’s website. “The Carling Cup will give us an opportunity to measure our level of readiness for the new season. Everybody is showing the right energy. Work has begun and we are all aware of the mammoth task ahead of us.
“We have to manage the process of integrating the new members in the team. There is also the matter of bringing the players to the same level of readiness before the new season starts.
“There were also some players that still carried an injury from last season. We had to cater for that in the preparation processes.”
