Chippa United Beat Supersport United To Continue Revival Into 2020
Norman Mapeza’s Chippa United collected a massive three points from title hopefuls Supersport to continue their upward trajectory and red hot form under the Zimbabwean born mentor.
Mapeza came out tops in the much hyped battle of the Zimbabwean coaches as Kaitano Tembo was in the opposition dugout barking instructions for Mantsantsa a Pitori club.
Chippa United beat SuperSport United 1-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to finish the year in ninth place having been being rock bottom for large parts of the season.
The Chilli Boys have now amassed 13 points from 15 in their last five matches to turn their season on its head having been early contenders for relegation in the early parts of the season.
They continue to write their own piece of history in the process as they have now kept 5 consecutive clean sheets which is a first for the club since getting into the Premier League.
Intermittent match day breaks through domestic cup and international games have definitely afforded Mapeza the chance to fairly assess nad restructure his side. Going into 2020 this might be the team to beat.
Defeat leaves SuperSport in third, 10 points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs missing out on a chance to keep the pressure on the log leaders having played two more games.
Xolani Mahola scored the decisive goal for the Chilli Boys and his first ever goal, in three seasons at the club.
He cut inside, played a one-two with midfield partner Meshack Maphangule, and then curled a shot around Supersport United goalkeepr Ronwen Williams and in off the post.
Williams had a busy afternoon keeping Chippa United at bay and keeping the scoreline respectable.
Dean Furman was denied by an inspired Veli Mothwa in the Chippa goal late on in the game as SuperSport struggled to break down the hosts and resorted to shots from long range.
