Chippa United Coach Mapeza Grateful To Kaitano Tembo For PSL Induction

Chippa United head coach Norman Mapeza has credited fellow Zimbabwean and SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo for the giant strides and meteoric rise he has made in the Absa PSL since taking over at the Port Elizabeth based club.

Mapeza admits to receiving guidance from Tembo whom he ironically beat 1-0 in Chippa United’s last match of the year.

Mapeza has subsequently led The Chilli Boys to four victories – scoring five and conceding none – in their last four games which is a club record, which in the process has seen the Port Elizabeth-based side shoot off the bottom of the table to 10th.

“We’ve been friends [since playing together for The Warriors]. We’ve been talking ever since I arrived here, and the guy knows much more about the PSL than me,”

“He’s been here for nearly 20 years; he’s a former player of SuperSport and now he’s into coaching, so he knows much more about what has been happening here than me.” Mapeza explained.

“He has done well. To be honest, he has been grinding results. Chippa now play with a little bit of structure. It’s not easy in this league to come in and have the impact that he has had. So credit should go to him.” said Tembo of his countryman’s progress in the Absa PSL.
