Chippa United – The Biggest Losers Of The 2020-21 PSL Season! The Chilli Boys endured a DSTV Premiership campaign to forget.
Chippa United finished the past campaign in 15th position and are now in the relegation/promotion playoff. They are set to play two matches against Richards Bay and Royal AM each.
These will ensue as soon as the High Court has decided the fate of the playoffs.
Their 7 year stay in the PSL is now at serious risk. They have endured an extremely poor season, which is representative of the manner in which the club is run at boardroom level.
The Chilli Boys kicked off their campaign with Lehlohonolo Seema as their head coach. The former Lesotho defender was then sacked, some would say unfairly in December.
Owner Chippa Mpengesi sought the services of former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael. However, this appointment received extreme backlash from the South African and indeed African football fraternity at large.
Eymael tarnished his reputation in South African football after he allegedly labelled football fans in Tanzania as “monkeys and dogs who know nothing about football,”
He has since not worked in Africa again. However, Mpengesi ignored this and appointed him.
SAFA and other authorities in the Eastern Cape condemned this appointment. Eymael’s hiring was then disbanded.
In came Dan Malesela, for his 5th stint as Chippa United coach. Malesela did not last long as he was fired after a 5-1 drubbing by Maritzburg.
Malesela had steered Chippa United into the semi-finals of the prestigious Nedbank Cup.
His assistant Siyabulela Gwambi took over the reins. Gwambi successfully took the Chilli Boys past Pretoria Callies and into the final against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Chippa Mpengesi hired Vladislav Heric to become the head coach. They lost the final 1-0 through a deflected Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo strike.
Chippa United’s season ended on a poor run and is now looking to salvage their DSTV Premiership status. Chippa United – The Biggest Losers Of The 2020-21 PSL Season!
