City Of Joburg Apologise to Kaizer Chiefs for Their Tweet! The Johannesburg Municipality recently attempted to “joke” with Amakhosi.
Kaizer Chiefs defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the Soweto Derby on Saturday afternoon. After this, the City of Joburg posted a crass tweet on their timeline.
The Municipality posted a picture of a Kaizer Chiefs shirt in a bin, with the caption, “Now that we’ve recovered from the weekend that was, remember to throw your litter in the bin. #KleenaJoburg” they tweeted.
Kaizer Chiefs responded by tweeting, “Disappointing… we are part of the City of Joburg.”
This struck a chord with the country, pushing The City of Joburg to apologise to Amakhosi for their crass behaviour.
“We sincerely apologise to @KaizerChiefs for the insensitive tweet posted earlier today. We meant no malice and the intended message was diluted with the choice of the meme that was used.
“We respect the Kaizer Chiefs brand, and we congratulate them for winning the Derby” they said.
This tweet maddened many football fans in South Africa, as the new week was an opportunity for Amakhosi to celebrate their momentous win. The winning goal scored by Yusuf Maart is worth winning any derby.
