Contract Uncertainty Surrounds Mamelodi Sundowns Star Khuliso Mudau

Contract uncertainty is looming over one of the Premier Soccer League’s most consistent right-backs, with ongoing negotiations between Mamelodi Sundowns and Khuliso Mudau yet to yield a new agreement.
Mudau, whose current contract is set to expire on June 30, 2025, remains a crucial figure for the Brazilians and Bafana Bafana, but talks about extending his stay at Chloorkop appear to be in question. Despite being in discussions for some time, the two parties have not yet agreed on new terms.
Mudau’s agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, confirmed the situation in an exclusive interview with the Siya crew. “We have been negotiating for some time now but we haven’t found each other yet on a new deal. There is no agreement on a new contract yet,” Kapeluschnik stated.
Sources close to the club indicate that Sundowns are considering activating the one-year extension option in Mudau’s current deal as they seek to buy time for further negotiations. “Yes, it’s believed that the new deal is not yet concluded as talks are ongoing but the club is using its power to exercise the one-year option they have. That’s what they are apparently looking at for now while a new deal is being negotiated. They still value him and that’s why they took him to the Club World Cup. Maybe talks will resume after that,” a Chloorkop insider revealed.
Mudau joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020 from Black Leopards on a five-year contract that included a one-year extension clause. Since then, he has established himself as one of the most reliable right-backs in the PSL and has become the first-choice option for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos. This season, Mudau featured prominently in the Betway Premiership and has gained valuable experience on the continental stage.
The ongoing contract standoff presents an intriguing situation for Sundowns. On one hand, the club is eager to retain one of its defensive pillars, whose market value has surged due to impressive performances for both club and country. On the other, reaching financial consensus appears to be more challenging amid Mudau’s rising profile.
By triggering the one-year extension, Sundowns would protect their asset from being poached by rival clubs while continuing negotiations in search of a long-term solution. For Mudau, the next few months could be pivotal in determining whether he continues to anchor the right side of Sundowns’ defence well into the future or explores other opportunities as his career progresses.
