Could Orlando Pirates & Mamelodi Sundowns Meet in CAF Champions League & Nedbank Cup Finals? Riveiro Relishing the Prospect

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are still in contention for multiple trophies this season, with the possibility of facing each other in two major finals—the CAF Champions League and the Nedbank Cup. Pirates are eyeing a historic quadruple, while Masandawana remain in the hunt for a treble.
A Potential Blockbuster Final
Having already faced off in the PSL this season, the two giants of South African football could meet again in high-stakes encounters. Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro is excited about the prospect and believes it would be a major boost for South African football.
“Hopefully, this is not the last time that we meet this season. We still have the opportunity to meet again in two competitions, and if that happens, it’s going to be really good news for SA football,” Riveiro stated, as per Sowetan Live.
“So I am happy with the development of the team for our young players… Imagine what this type of game means to Mbokazi, Nkotha, Rele, and Radiopane… it’s so good. There’s a lot of positive components in this game.”
Champions League & Nedbank Cup Scenarios
Both clubs are in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, where they have avoided each other in the draw. Should they both advance past the semi-finals, it would mark the first-ever all-PSL final in the history of the competition.
Similarly, in the Nedbank Cup, they are in opposite semi-final brackets. If they progress, it will set up a rematch of last season’s final, where Sundowns emerged victorious.
What’s Next for Pirates & Sundowns?
Following the FIFA international break, both teams will resume their Champions League campaigns. Orlando Pirates will travel to Algeria to face MC Alger on April 1 in their quarter-final first leg, while Sundowns will host Esperance on the same day.
Should both clubs maintain their form, South African football fans could be in for an unforgettable climax to the season with two blockbuster finals on the horizon.
