Nigeria plays against African rivals Ghana in their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers this week. Veteran goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is confident of doing enough to make it through to the finals.
The Super Eagles did not make it to the previous showing in Russia in 2018. This crop of players is confident of making their country proud once more.
Both Nigeria and Ghana had a poor AFCON in their standards. Ghana did not make it past the group stages and Nigeria fell to Tunisia in the last 16.
Ghana have enjoyed a rich heritage at FIFA World Cup finals. This is especially during the 2006, 2010 and 2014 finals.
“I believe in the quality of our squad at the moment fully. We will qualify.” Akpeyi told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“We have a crop of good players who are able to qualify for Nigeria to Qatar” he boldly stated.
Nigeria will be boosted by having players return from injury for these crucial matches.
“Ghana is also a strong team. There has been a rivalry between the countries on many things.
“Football is a big part of this at the end of the day it is the team that prepares very well and gets ready to take their chances and defend as well. That is the team that will qualify.
“For me history does not really work for football. What works for football is the preparation for today, currently, we are doing well, and we have been to the last three World Cups.
“This is not going to be any different. It is not going to be a walk in the park but we going to give our heart out there.” He added.
